Representation Can Make or Break You

Happily I had paid off our 2006 Saturn ION in May of 2011. It had 99,500 miles on it. In mid-June of that year I changed car insurance companies, incredibly saving over $200 dollars a month. I did not switch to the company that can save you 15% in 15 minutes however my new company like America, believes in liberty. Heather was working as a nanny that summer to earn money for her first year in college and using the Saturn to get to and...

Have You Ever… I Have.

There’s a pretty popular comedian these days named Tom Papa. He has a podcast, a radio show on Sirius XM and a TV Show on Food Network. He is also a writer and performer on the radio show Live From Here. Live From Here replaced the popular Prairie Home Companion on American Public Radio a couple of years ago. Tom’s style is a kind of light deadpan humor. His segment on Live From Here is called ‘Out in America’. The routine involves him calling...

BBQ Sauce for Chicken

This is how the recipe read: ¾ C Catsup ½ C Vinegar 4T Lemon juice 1C Water ¾ C Brown sugar 2 tsp Salt 4 tsp Dry mustard 4 tsp Chili powder 4 tsp Paprika, That was it. I had made it and grilled delicious barbeque chicken with it dozens of times. My friends who were getting married, Bob and Cathy Backhaus, had asked me to make my “famous” barbeque chicken for...

Talkers, Why God Created Calculators

Heritage Buzz

I’m terrible at Math. Not really terrible, I just don’t have a math mind. And I believe that calculators are one of man’s best friends. I’ve always enjoyed words more than numbers. While I love to read, and I enjoy writing I was born to talk. Mrs. Lucy Canter my first grade teacher wrote on my fall report card “He does enjoy talking to his friends.” In April she said “Work habits are satisfactory but still must watch his talking to his friends.” That same year, my...

To Stage or Not to Stage That is the Question!

Heritage Buzz

Staging with Occasional Tables and Throw Pillows Improves the Look Late last fall we listed a beautiful contemporary home in Crownsville for sale for a client. I had represented this client in the purchase of that home just three years earlier. Their needs had changed and I helped them buy their new house earlier in June and he reached out to me to list the old house. During our discussions about marketing he had asked if we could stage the home –...

Words That Broke Her Heart

“No Heather, Rusty won’t be there when we get home.” I was speaking the words I knew would break her heart. “Why, daddy? Why not?” she asked as the tears began to flow. “Well, Heather, when you told me last night that you’d rather spend the night with Lianne than be home when the SPCA brought Rusty to our house, I realized that you didn’t want him as badly as you had said and that he wasn’t all that important to you. And I couldn’t...

Don’t Wait for a Wake up Call!

Headaches are rare for me. If I get one it’s usually due to being dehydrated. The day before we were to leave on an overseas trip in July of 2013 I had a rip roaring splitting headache like someone had hit me in the head with a baseball bat. I took some over the counter pain reliever and it subsided but the problem persisted and so I pretty much lived on the pain reliever for the duration of the trip. Fast forward to early September just...

A Dead Battery, One Oar and Anchor Throwing

Once I borrowed my brother-in-law’s 12 foot rowboat to take my friend Bob bass fishing on a small river on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Carl’s boat had a small outboard motor with an electric starter. Carl and I loved to fish but at times the equipment was less than optimal. When I arrived to pick up the boat he told me the battery had fully charged overnight and we would be good to go. Arriving at the river the next day Bob and I put...

What’s Your Annapolis Home REALLY Worth?

Whose Numbers Matter Most?  Yours Or Theirs? Every month we get all kinds of statistics blasted at us from the government, television news, magazine articles and other types of media that we may or may not actually be paying attention to.  Things like the consumer confidence index, the builder confidence index, housing starts, the affordability index, the Case Shiller home price index and on and on it goes. So what’s a potential home seller or home buyer to do with all of...
